A city department, not the county
Hampton is incorporated and handles its own building permits through its Community Development Department at 17 E. Main Street South, on 770-946-4306, with applications going through the city's online system. That is the first thing to establish on a Hampton job, because an address a short drive outside the city limits belongs to Henry County and a different desk entirely.
Two kinds of Hampton house
Window work here divides along the same line the town does. Near the center there are genuinely old homes with original proportions, tall narrow openings and wood sills that have been painted many times. Out toward the newer subdivisions the openings are modern and standard, and the windows going out are the builder-grade units the houses were finished with.
| Older homes near the center | Newer subdivision homes | |
|---|---|---|
| Opening sizes | Often non-standard, made to order | Standard, off common size charts |
| Likely method | Full-frame where sills have gone | Insert replacement |
| Common fault | Rot at sills and casings, sashes painted shut | Failed seals and fogged glass in batches |
| Lead paint | Likely if built before 1978 | Not a concern |
| Trim | Profiles worth matching | Standard trim, easily replaced |

A general split based on how window assemblies age, not a survey of Hampton properties. Your own house decides which column it sits in.

If the sills are soft, sill and trim repair comes before the window order, not after it.
House windows, not vehicle glass
Worth stating plainly on this page in particular: searches around Hampton for anything with the word window in it return a lot of vehicle glass shops. Different trade, different tools, different businesses. If you need a pane in a house, a sash that will not stay up, a fogged unit or a new front door, that is this site. If you need anything to do with a car, you want somebody else entirely.
Prices and code, same as the rest of the county
Installed prices run $575 to $1,100 per window for a standard vinyl double-hung across Georgia, with whole houses of 10 to 15 windows at $6,000 to $16,000. Hampton sits in Climate Zone 3 like the rest of Henry County, so new units need a 0.35 U-factor or lower and a 0.27 SHGC or lower. The cost guide has the full source table.
Bedrooms in older houses
Old bedrooms with short, wide windows are the ones most likely to be close to the escape-opening minimums, and an insert unit shrinks the clear opening slightly. Worth measuring before ordering: the egress guide shows how.
