Every number on this site comes from a document we read, and the page says where it came from and when. In practice that means:
- Prices are quoted from cost sources with the date printed on their own page, with local job records used where they exist.
- Permit rules come from the issuing offices' own published pages, applications and fee schedules, not from other contractors' websites.
- Code figures come from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs amendment packages rather than from national summaries, because Georgia amends several of the numbers that matter.
- Climate figures come from NOAA's state climate summary.
- Where two official documents disagree, as the county's portal and its fee schedule do, both are published and the reader is pointed at the phone number.
What we will not publish
A few things get left out on purpose. The widely repeated claim that windows account for a quarter to a third of a home's heating and cooling loss is not here, because the federal pages it traces back to are no longer live.
